Acne Products
Why do we need acne products? Acne is a common problem especially in teenagers. Many people are often confused about why skin specialists and dermatologists ask two people with pimples on their face to use totally different antibiotics. Why do doctors prescribe different medicines and lotions for people with the same problem? Let’s take a look at some of the causes for this problem.
Acne is a skin related problem that is visible in the shape of pimples or zits. Acne Vulgaris, as it is scientifically known, is a usually visible on the face, neck, chest and back. These areas contain a large number of sebaceous or oil producing glands. Usually appearing in two forms, inflammatory and non inflammatory, acne can also appear on the shoulders and upper arms during puberty due to the same reasons.
One of the most common reasons for acne is the release of hormones during the period of puberty. During this time, both male and female teenagers experience an increase in the male sex hormone known as androgens, which causes the enlargement of the follicular glands and thus lead to the appearance of acne. Approximately 95 percent of teenagers usually go through this problem form their early to late teens. Acne in older women is usually a sign of another illness that may not be visible, for example menstrual problems, cysts in the ovaries or hormonal imbalance.
The pores that carry the follicles for hair in the skin can sometimes become blocked. This is another reason for acne in many people. The oil that is produced by the follicular glands inside these pores, sebum, sometimes gets mixed with the dirt and dead skin cells on the skin. This causes the pores to become blocked with this mixture. Beginning as blackheads, these may be further infected by bacteria and become pimples, zits or scars.
Scientific tests have shown that acne is also closely related to tension. People undergoing periods of increased stress will also begin to develop acne. Similarly, those who have the condition will experience an increase in the acne when under stress. Additionally, the acne can also be transferred through the genes from one person to another in a family.
P. Acnes, a naturally occurring bacterium, is the one behind the infection causing acne. These bacteria combine with the dirt, dead skin and other elements to cause blockage in the pores and then infect them. The diet of many people who do not eat healthy is also responsible for the acne on our bodies. Modern diet has a high glycemic content and this causes oil production to increase and thus causes acne. Cow’s milk is another food that can lead to skin issues.
So, each of these causes of acne specifies that a different method be used for its treatment. This is because even though these people have the same problem, their causes may not be the same. Acne products that may be suitable for someone whose acne is caused by hormonal surges will obviously not benefit someone who has broken out due to blocked pores.
