It is common knowledge that long term exposure to toxic compounds is a potential health risk that can cause permanent organ failure or even premature loss of life. Mesothelioma is among the numerous diseases linked to prolonged contact with hazardous materials. It is caused by asbestos that induces the build-up of a protective membrane of mutated cells around internal body organs like the lungs and heart.

Unfortunately, asbestos is commonly inhaled in job environments.

Wrong diagnosis of Mesothelioma, is however, not common especially when the heath history of the patience is not known. Some possible sign of a Mesothelioma case are chest wall pain along with abdominal swelling, short breath, unusual weight loss, blood disorders and waste discharge difficulties.

Nonetheless, medical imaging techniques such as the x-rays, CT scans and MRI are the ones often used to give undisputed visual evidence indicating presence of the malignant cell lining that causes Mesothelioma.

After Mesothelioma is suspected, diagnostic tests are carried out by using microscopic examinations of chest tissues to see whether the tissues produce the malignant cells.

Localized stage which is level I or II is when the protective malignant membrane is found on the affected organ like the kidney while the advanced stage referred to as level III and IV is when the malignant membrane spread throughout the body.

A few of the treatment regimes used to manage Mesothelioma include chemotherapy, surgery, immunotherapy and radiotherapy. Patients with localized Mesothelioma level I and II often receive radio and chemo therapy to eliminate and prevent further development of cancerous cell.

Where patients have advanced Mesothelioma at level III or IV, malignant membrane removal surgery, chemotherapy and radiation will be applied to increase the patient’s chances of recovery. In some circumstances, patients receive immunotherapy to reduce the mass of the tumor.

About the Author:

My mother in law had gout and uric acid problems, and she always told me what foods she would avoid to lessen her chances of a bad episode of gout. These were foods rich in purine and alcohol. Now that I have older children, the concern for health problems being passed on to them has arisen.

Of the many conditions she suffered from, gout was on the list, so I did a little research so that I could better understand should the need arise for me to include this in a hereditary list of ailments to present to our doctor.

My kids and I went online to read up on the condition and learned that our bodies all have some uric acid in them. It is a waste that comes from cells that die and then purines get released into the blood. You can get too much purines from food too, then the increase in the uric acid level causes hyperuricemia.

When hyperuricemia is a problem for a person for a long time, say over 18-20 years, an excess of uric acid is throughout their body and the uric acid turns into crystalized sodium urate, these crystals will form in joints which causes the person a lot of pain and that is called gout.

It is important to then seek ways to lower uric acid to a level that is considered normal so that they don’t end up getting the terrible results of gout or hyperuricemia. They must seek help from a physician who can advise them how to lower their uric acid.

All you need to do is have your physician give you a blood test to measure your serum uric acid level.

To avoid getting gout you might need to go on medicine, or just change some habits that could be making gout symptoms arise.

Being overweight is a contributing factor in getting gout, for example if you are considered obese, then your body fat ratio is off balance with your height. This means that you could be increasing your risk for getting gout by four times. Maintaining a healthy weight is a major factor to keep from getting sick with gout.

It is important to watch your weight for other reasons as well, such as lessoning your risk of blood-pressure problems and decreases risk of heart disease. It is important to note that researchers are connecting the possibility that kidney disease, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, is being cause by the high uric levels of acid in people.
